Building palaces to the spatial planning and construction is based on emperors' political activities and their daily living needs. Intrauterine the main political activities is the "朝(chao)" and therefore the palace is built around it. "Zhou(周礼)", "Book of Rites(礼记)," and "Etiquette(仪礼)" and other books are "emperor,seigneur all do three chao(朝)", which refers to a system of three chao(朝) : inside one and outside one。they have different functions.内朝(inside one) are 治朝(zhi chao)and 燕朝(yan chao).

The original Lan Ting Prologue, allegedly written by Wang Xi Zhi at the prime of his calligraphy career (51 year old, 353 A.D.), is universally recognized as the most important piece in the history of Chinese calligraphy.

The elegant Wang style, as fully represented by the original piece, has profound influence on Asian calligraphy in China, Japan and Korea. The emperor Tang Taizong loved Wang's calligraphy so much that he collected as many of Wang's original scrolls as he could and ordered them buried with himself. Thus, the existing calligraphy of Wang Xi Zhi including the Lan Ting Prologue are only preserved on stone engravings or as replica copies by other calligraphy masters of the Tang dynasty.

Qing Ming Shang He Tu, meaning "the riverside scene at the day of Qingming festival", was painted by one of the Song Dynasty's greatest artists, Zhang Zeduan (960 -1127) about 980 years ago. It is a very long hand painted silk handscroll and has been kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing.
This painting is very long. The original size is 24.8 centimeters in high, 528 centimeters in width, according to the Beijing Palace Museum.
